Aldi

Anyone have experience with shopping at an Aldi? I hear they have cheap groceries, though they don't take coupons apparently and you have to pay 25 cents for a cart and bag your own groceries. JW if it's worth it.

Re: Aldi

  • The 25 is a eposit. You get your quarter back when you return your cart. Their produce is ok for the price. I havent been shopping there as much lately cause ive been getting better deals at target

  • I love Aldi. It's the same company as Trader Joes but they're cheap. I've had great experience with their produce as well as their store brand items. It's pretty bare bones -- you won't find any highly specialized items or many national brands but I've never been displeased with anything I bought there.

It's not bad. I go sometimes. It's good for things that you don't need name brand for.....chips, tuna, crackers, frozen stuff. I would go more often if I didn't drive past 3 other grocery stores and a walmart to get there

  • I don't have one close enough but my aunt loves Aldi.  She always has foster kids so her grocery bill can get pretty crazy.  She is a manager at Walmart and shops at Aldi all the time.
  • Aldi is the best for staples (milk, bread, cheese, anything canned, frozen.)  Nothing super specialty.  I usually do one trip to Aldi a month and then get day-to-day stuff from regular grocery.  I would estimate it saves me about 30% over if I just bought everything at the reg grocery.  Also, they have bags available for purchase only so BYOBags! (They're only 5 cents though.)

Yeah I think I am going to try them out when LO and I come back from FL. I usually get groceries delivered from Safeway because I use their online coups, BOGO deals, and J4U discounts. So much easier to see all the sales online and I get gas rewards. I fear grocery shopping with LO but have to try it eventually.

  • I like Aldis. I shop there for my produce and a few other things that. You do pay a quarter for a cart but when you return the cart you get your quarter back. I always keep a stash of Walmart bags in my vehicle because you do have to bag your own groceries, but the prices are very reasonable. It's convenient because Aldis is right across the street from Walmart. So I go to Aldis first then across the street to Walmart for everything else. I think you will like it.
  • i know i'm a little late to chime in, but i LOVE aldi. i can do groceries for me and LO every week for $35-$50.
