Question about Ferber

sorry if this has been asked already....

when using the Ferber method and you go in after waiting the alloted time period, do you leave once they stopped crying or do you just soothe them for a couple of minutes and then leave even if they are still crying and then wait the next interval to go back in and do it again?

I don't think we ever had to do this with DS1, he just learned to STTN on his own but I think we need to try with DS2.

Thanks!

Re: Question about Ferber

  • You soothe and then leave regardless of if crying has stopped or not.  You should stay 30 seconds to a minute, 2 minutes at the longest.  You do not want them to fall asleep while you are there, that defeats the purpose.  I highly recommend reading the entire book before starting, it does a really great job explaining all of this and why you are doing it.
