I have a thyroid issue and have been doing some research. Apparently, prenatal vitamins can counteract the effectiveness of my thyroid meds. Has anyone else been experiencing the same thing?
I also take meds for my thyroid. From what I have been told, if you take them too close together they can fuse and the meds may not be effective. My doc said to take the thyroid meds first thing in the morning and then wait until at least lunchtime to take the vitamins.

This. You're supposed to take your thyroid medicine on an empty stomach and not eat for another 2 hours after it. Fiber can also reduce thyroid medicine absorption. Also, look for a prenatal without iodine as iodine can reduce thyroid function. They're harder to find, but they are out there.

When you say "iodine can reduce thyroid function" does that apply to the effectivity of the meds or the thyroid function itself because I don't have one as I was born without it.
Yes, the can! Almost anything can interfere. The best is to take it in the morning on an empty stomach, and wait an hour before you eat. Different foods can affect them, too.
If you take your PNV at night with dinner, or before bed, it will not interfere. It's just when you are trying to absorb the medicine that it can be a problem. As long as you take them 8 hours apart, you will be fine!

I *think* it's actual thyroid function. Iodine has been used to treat overactive thyroid. That's a good question for your endo, though. I just remember discussing avoiding iodine and iodized salt with my endo.

I have Hashimoto's so I've been on a high dosage of thyroid for years and years -- not fun, and it can get a little more whacky with pregancy, so make sure you and your endo (or dr) are watching it.
You need to take your thyroid first thing in the morning, empty stomach, and wait at least an hour before you eat. To combat morning sickness, I have an alarm that goes off at five am -- I take the pill and go back to bed for an hour! If I don't eat fairly soon after getting out of bed, I'm nauseated all day.
You also need a four hour window between your thyroid pill and any calcium or iron supplements. They bind with the medication, and make it not as effective; that can cause problems for you AND for LO. I recommend taking your prenatal at dinner. You won't forget, won't counteract your thyroid, and will likely suffer less m/s by taking it closer to bedtime!

Ooo now I do remember this. I used to take my thyroid meds in the AM and prenats in the PM.
