ER trip - Subchorionic hemorrhage

So i finally made it to the hospital im going to be delivering at to get checked up on b.c of the bad cramping i have been having and they did a u/s and told me they found bleeding in my placenta and its called Subchorionic hemorrhage. I should follow up with my OB in two days. They said i could possibly miscarry and the papers talk about bed rest and to save any tissue that i pass. Kinda FREAKS ME OUT. I have not been bleeding at all vaginally just internal.... has anyone been threw this?!?!

Re: ER trip - Subchorionic hemorrhage

  • I had one with my last pregnancy. At about 16 weeks I went to the bathroom and there was a ton of blood. After that I never had another issue with it. I went on to have a perfect and healthy little boy. Don't worry too much!

I have a small one.  My doctor said not to worry about it and that they often reagsorb before the 2nd tri.  I've had no bleeding externally.

  • I have one, but I'm actually bleeding from it. Don't pay attention to anything the ER Dr said. Your OB should be able to comfort you about it. Just take it easy and drink lots of water.

  • I'm stopping in again from the August board and I went through this at 11 weeks and when DH and I made it to the er they called it a threatened miscarriage and put me on bed rest. We went to my ob two days later after the bleeding had stopped and then I had another big gush of blood and then they finally told me the blood has been there since early pregnancy and the baby had finally pushed it out of the way. They put me on bed rest for another two weeks and then I had to take it easy for a while after that. And they had also told me we could miscarry. It's really scary but keep your head up and rest as much as possible and hopefully everything will be just fine! Good luck!

  • My RE found the same thing in me last week said he sees it in about 50 of his patients and there isn't a 50 miscarriage rate so he wasn't overly concerned. He just said no sex to lay off exercise for 2 weeks and released me to my OB first appt next week for a f/u u/s. good luck!

What do you mean bleeding internally? Are you talking about seeing blood on your finger when you check your cervix?

This js why you should NOT go to the ER for vaginal bleeding. Unless you are hemorrhaging it's pointless. You're wasting time and resources, and they will diagnose you with a threatened miscarriage EVERY time. They aren't OB's.

A lot of people have SCH's and go on to deliver healthy babies. Your OB will be able to tell you the size and location of yours. Good luck

This the ER is a place for emergencies only.
  • I have one also which is why I went in for an early U/S at 5w5d, because I was spotting. We saw a healthy baby and HB. The bleeding has continued on and off, and while it isn't as heavy as yours at least we know where it is coming from. Like PP have said, worrying won't help you. I am sure that your OB will ease your mind and give you good advice for how to move forward. Good luck!!!

If you feel that your situation requires immediate attention and it is outside of business hours for your physician, then go to the ER if you want. No one should feel they aren't allowed that.

  • Thanks guys =) It just really worry's me that they told me that, but good thing was baby was doing ok and it was not a ectopic pregnancy. They said i had a tear in my placenta and it was bleeding on the outer layer's. I am not supposed to lift anything over 2 pnds, and strict bed rest =/ and to all the people saying the ER is a place for emergency only, my OB wont even look at u till you 8 weeks. I called them and i was told to go to L&D to get checked out which was full at the time so the ER saw me. And when im cramping so hard that i have pain and shaking going down my leg, all the way up my stomach, severe pain in my right ovary 24/7, you bet your im going to the er. You can never be too sure and my baby's life and mine is not something I will take chances with. I have had two pregnancys and i know the difference between a round lig pain and what is not ok for my body. This was not Ok and i was in lots of pain, still am actually but at least now i know what is causing it.

I think it is pretty rude to accuse her of wasting time and resources. She is a pregnant woman with severe cramping and received a legitimate diagnosis with instructions to restrict activity. If she hadn't gone, she wouldn't have known what was going on. If there's a chance that going to the ER, learning that she has a SCH, and following reduced activity orders could help preserve the pregnancy, I say it is absolutely worth the time and resources. I realize a lot of women with SCH have healthy pregnancies and don't ever require bedrest, but still....if it were me I'd have done the same thing.
