What's your first impression when you hear the name Niall?

I think of One Direction. I've never heard the name anywhere else.

I think of the Sookie Stackhouse books- that's the name of her fairy great-grandfather.

My first instinct would be to prounounce it Ny-all, and that is harsh. I would never think to pronounce it Neal, or even Nile.

I think of the UK, where I've heard it a lot more than in the US.  I like it a lot!

I've known several Nialls from time spent living in the UK and Ireland. I like it a lot and always thought the pronunciation was fairly straightforward, but apparently from the responses here, it isn't!

I like it.  I lump it together with Noel, probably because of the similar sound.

Wow. I am shocked that so many people find it hard to pronounce! I thought it was pretty easy, especially compared to some other traditional Irish names!
