Parenting after a Loss

Well this is a real h!t show

So we are trying to start milk and wean off the bottle at the same time. We did get the OK from ped to start milk about a week ago. WHAT. A. DISASTER.

So DS never really took to the sippy cup so we tried a straw cup and that worked great. But he won't take milk out of it. Or a milk/formula mixture. He also won't take milk or a milk/formula mixture out of a sippy. We have also tried warming the milk and that only slightly helps. However, if you take the milk or milk/formula mixture and put it in a bottle he sucks it down like its nobody's business.

I don't know what to do. I don't know if he doesn't like milk but he will tolerate it from a bottle. Or maybe he's conditioned to think only water goes in cups so he's weirded out by it or what.

So I'm looking for a few things. 1 tips/tricks for weaning onto milk and weaning off bottle. 2. advice regarding what's more importantgetting him off bottle or making sure he gets enough milk. He still gets three bottles of formula a day. We are trying to phase out one bottle at a time but we can't even do that because he won't drink anything out of a cup during that bottle time. Ugh! Help please? TIA!!

  • We're transitioning by putting milk in their bottles, then we'll wean off the bottles to sippies or cups. I think both transitions at once are too much for them and for us! There is nothing magical about turning one that means bottles are suddenly bad f

If your kid will only take milk in the bottle, do that for now.  Making sure he's getting the nutrients he needs is more important than making sure he's off a bottle by one year. Like Missa_g said, there's nothi

We're not there yet, but when I read your post, I was thinking the same thing as the other ladies: do one transition at a time.

  • You ladies are right I think. Too much change at once. We will do the milk first and then try getting off the bottles later. Thanks for setting me straight. Sometimes you're too frustrated to see the obvious solution. Thank you!!

  • I feel your pain. We are slowly starting the milk transition and adding in 1 more oz of milk and 1 less oz of formula a week. Plus trying to transition out her bottles. As of now she only gets her bottle before bed and if she wakes up in the middle of the

  • Keep in mind that the purpose of giving milk is to make sure your LO is getting the fat, water and calcium that he needs. If he will only drink water out of a cup, then just make sure he's getting enough fat and calcium fr

  • I agree about it being too much to do both at once. We did the switch to cow's milk first and then she was completely off bottles by 14 months.
