5 month old will only nap while being held, help!?!

My 5 month old will only nap in my arms! I have tried his swing, bouncer, the floor, and he especially hates his crib! I have tried letting him cry it out... Today I put him in his crib drowsy at 2 pm, at 5 pm he was still screaming! I went in and comforted him a few times, fed him once when he would normally eat. Then let him cry from 4-5. Finally I went in and took him out. He is currently sleeping in my arms.

 

I am at a loss with what to do. I get nothing done having to hold him every day. Any suggestions or reassurance that this will not last forever?!

This was exactly the way it was for me until LO was almost 3 months. Then we did Babywise. I know a lot of people are against it but we did it and now LO sleeps SO well. We did however make adjustments... the book states that you should make them based

Have you tried a good baby carrier? My son's favorite place to nap is in a carrier, all snuggled up. You could have your hands free and baby will get the snuggles!

First of all, how does he go to sleep at night?  Is he rocked/bounced to sleep first and then put in his crib, or does he know how to fall asleep on his own?

If he's rocked to sleep at night, you'll need to sleep train him how to fall asleep

Thank you for the replies! He is rocked to sleep at night, as I don't mind having to do so at night time... But I guess it makes sense that that's what he expects during the day! I guess we will work on getting him to fall asleep on his own at night as we
