Meat already?

So this afternoon we were hanging out with another family who lives across the street from us and their youngest just turned one. We were talking about starter foods and she told me that meat is something that should be tried early on. She said things like chicken thighs/breasts or ground turkey are good for beginner meats. Has anyone done this yet? If so, what have you used to season the meat since salt is out of the question?

Re: Meat already?

  • I would try it. Our pedi said once on solids she could have anything besides honey and whole milk unless there's a family history of an allergy. We aren't on solids yet, but meat wouldnt be something I avoid.

  • We have given chicken and fish to DS already, and he's tolerated it well.  The chicken is poached chicken thighs, and fish is pan-fried flounder.

  • I'll probably start meat in a couple months. I read that meats can be harder on babies with sensitive tummys, which DD has. I guess the protein in it can be harder to digest.

  • I bought some of the Ellas Kitchen organic pouches in a chicken dinner and beef dinner. It says for 7 plus months.

  • I really don't want to give LO the meat in the baby food section because yes it does look revolting and our neighbors use it to mix with their dog's food! However, we did give DS2 a small piece of really soft chicken and he kind of just held it in his mou

  • My mil also suggested I let O suck on the meat. She said that's what she used to do with her kids.

  • DD is 7 months tomorrow. She has *tried* chicken, ground pork, ground beef, and sirloin. By trying I mean she sticks it in her mouth and occasionally ingests a little. No different than any other kind of food with her :)
