Dropping feedings

My goal with bfing is 2 and I had said if she hadn't started to drop feedings by 18 months that I'd push the issue a little. I honestly thought she'd do it on her own but here we are at 18 months and still nursing 5-6 times a day.

I'm starting to do don't offer don't refuse and if she asks to nurse at a time she usually doesn't I try to distract her or offer her a snack. That almost never works. When she wants to nurse that is ALL she wants. We just had a full scale come apart because I tried to have her eat an egg instead of nursing. 

Anyone else in this type of situation? What are your strategies for cutting back a couple of sessions?

  • Is she eating a lot when she nurses those 5-6 times? N is still nursing but at am, nap, and bedtime.  I haven't tried to refuse those times and would expect a similar melt down as you describe.  I had asked a LC about weaning and her basic re

  • She does seem to be eating quite a bit when she nurses. Every once in awhile it's more like a snack or just for comfort but that's not common.

  • What do you do while you nurse? My DD cut out her night time a while ago because she was too distracted by the books we were reading. She slowly cut down the time, then stopped asking completely. So I'd suggest making some cuddle time with books and ov
