Stomach bug and no formula

My LO has been fighting a virus this whole week. Today, for the sake of diarrhea, I did not give him any formula whatsoever. He's taking lots of pedialyte, diluted juice and occasional solids cause his appetite is stil not 100%.

I'm wondering if any of you mommies have ever gone a day or two w/o giving your LO any BM or formula. His stomach goes bananas with the milk so I want to make sure his tummy is better before giving it again. Just wondering how much time is OKAY not to have formula.

Re: Stomach bug and no formula

  • Yes! My daughter's last ear infection was a nightmare and she wouldn't eat AT ALL!  I ended up giving pedialyte to her w/ a medicine dropper.  It was the only way I could get anything into her.  Our pedi said any liquid you can get in is fi

  • We did when LO had a bad bout with diarrhea.  Then after a day or so they had us do every other bottle pedialyte.  The also switched us from a milk based formula to a soy formula during her bug (she had diarrhea for 2 weeks straight).

  • At about 6 or 7 months my LO had a bad stomach bug and was on pedialyte for 2 days with very little solids and about 4 oz of formula each day. It is so short term and it's okay for them to go without formula for the sake of getting better.

  • You could always try half strength formula bottles too if you're worried about lo being hungry or not getting enough.  Mine was sick about a month ago, I gave him a 6 oz bottle with formula for a 3 oz bottle.  He kept it down.  Good Luck!
