Vent re: manager w/o kids

I feel very fortunate that my old manager was understanding & let me work pt after I had DS; I used to work 3 days/wk, now I work 4 days.  My current manager does not have kids & is not as understanding.  I'm really mad at the moment b/c he even went so far to write on my annual review that although I "leave work early it's not a problem since my work gets done". I talked to him about it & told him I'm still working my scheduled 8 hrs - just earlier.  It's just like he's setting me up for a potential problem down the road.  He also told me he'd prefer not to have any pt employees but he's not going to change anyone's schedule now.  All of this just leads me to really realize that after I come back from maternity leave in fall I really need to look for a new job.  Once my kids are in school I would like to work school hours (which isn't for a few more yrs still) - but even so, I can tell this guy is not going to be flexible at all.  Sorry for the rant - I'm just really mad about the whole thing...

  • That's really unfortunate :(. I am lucky to work in a place where my manager's are all women with kids, so very understanding. I work full time, but taking days off/adjusting my hours if needed is never a problem. I am constantly worried that one day one

  • I agree that some boss's are flexible and some are not.  My current supervisor is a single female in her 50s.  She's never been married or had kids, however, she had an elderly parent to care for until recently, so she understand the need for

  • Regardless of their flexibility, I would ask for a correction to made in your review. Stating that "you leave early" is not the same as switching to earlier hours. That needs to be clarified. What if a new manager comes into play down the road or you move
