How many ounces when pumping?

I pumped for the first time and was surprised to get only 1 ounce out of both breasts.  Is this pretty standard or will it increase as time goes on?  It seems like it would take forever to get enough to freeze in one bag.

  • I didn't get much early on, either. It increased over a few weeks, then leveled off when I had a nursing/pumping schedule in place. Your body will respond to the demand in time :)

  • It will increase for sure.  I pumped after every feeding beginning at about 3 weeks and then was able to add just pumping sessions instead of after each feeding.  Before my supply issues (due to the mini-pill even though it isn't supposed to affect your supply) I could pump 4-5 oz from each breast a session.
  • I usually get between 3-5 oz total. When he was younger I only got 2 oz so it definitely increased as he got a bit older.
