Aflac STD question

STD = Short term disability, of course! I was just talking to the insurance agent and forgot to ask. Is the premium for Aflac generally deducted before or after taxes? Just trying to budget accurately.

If you've used Aflac Short term disability for maternity leave, were you happy with it? I do know that I can't use it for maternity leave until I've been signed up for 9 months, so no worries, I'm not pregant now, and not planning on it for a couple more months.

  • Thanks for the help! This one will cover 6-8 weeks at about 60% of my pay. Looks like I'll need to ask specifically about the tax implications.

  • I believe it is taken out pre-tax.

And mine paid 60% of my pay for 6 weeks if I had a vaginal birth and 8 weeks if I had a c-section.

  • Double check this to verify, but...

If you can have the premiums deducted post-tax, do it!  That means you won't have to pay taxes on the benefit.
