3rd Trimester

When to stop working?

I am 30 weeks and I am exhausted. I work the counter and register at a pizzeria in front of extremely hot ovens and on my feet for about 6 hours a day and I am a full time student. I don't have any days off right now but will be cutting out one day of work starting in 2 weeks so I will have one day off. I have been having a lot of back, leg, and vaginal ligament pain and sleep is getting harder and harder to get. When did you stop working? I feel like if I stop sooner rather than later I will be weak or something but this is really hard. I don't know what to do.

Re: When to stop working?

  • I think you have the right idea to cut back your hours now. I don't know your financial situation but you could cut back to part time at 36 weeks and then go on mat leave early like 38 weeks. Or just see how it goes.

  • There is no maternity leave with this job and the financial situation sucks but we can make it work so that isn't a huge deal.
  • I worked 6 days a week, one part time job, one full time job. at 32 weeks i gave up my full time job. This was only a week ago and i feel relieved because if i dont sleep well, i can take a nap during the day. I was also on my feet 8+ hours a day and i

  • I'm due May 20th I'm on the 30-31 week cusp, but I stopped working a week ago. Although I work in a medical office and have ample time to sit at my desk, I live in NYC and take public transportation. At my 29th week checkup my OB examined me to find ba

  • It's standard for my provider to put even healthy women on disability 30 days before their EDD. In CA disiability has different implcations in terms of getting paid for your time off then just cutting back your schedule due to normal discomfort.

Listen to what your body is telling you. I have nothing but respect for the women who continue to work for as long as they can-- but you do not need to compare yourself to that. You will not be "weak" for leaving work.

Next week is my last week,

  • I agree with the poster who said listen to your body.  With DS, I worked until 39 weeks and could have worked even longer.  I felt great!

With this pregnancy, 38 weeks was too long for me.  I am a teacher and luckily had my

  • Thank you for all the opinions ladies. I'm having a lot of bh too so I think I'm just going to talk to my doc on Wednesday and see what she says. I'm just worried if I push it I will go into labor early. Plus my comfort level in diminishing quickly.
  • Depends on how you feel and the demands of your job. I worked my desk job until I was 40 wks 5 days pregnant and was induced at 41 wks 2 days. The only reason I stopped working is my grandmother was having surgery and I had my induction date. Felt like

I would also recommend a maternity belt. It will give you extra support and it is great for back pain. It is also a good idea to cut back some of your hours.
