Early Wake Up, Bedtime, Nap Questions

My 16 mo LO had been on a schedule like this:

5:30am Wake Up (out of crib at 6am)

12pm-2pm Nap

7pm Bed

Since daylight savings I've been trying to shift it forward by pushing the nap to 12:30pm and bed to 7:30pm.  So far the wake ups have been around 6am (which is great but I'm not sure if it's still daylight savings related or later bedtime related) but the past 2 days the naps have been shorter (like 1 hour instead of 2.5).

Has anyone else done a schedule shift by pushing naps/bedtime later like this?  How long did it take for LO to start sleeping in?  Did the later bedtime cause cr*p naps for a while?

I worry that he's getting overtired from the later nap time and bedtime.

Re: Early Wake Up, Bedtime, Nap Questions

  • One thing I've read that seems to help keep overtired from getting out of hand is to keep their day at 12-13 hours tops. So if they wake up at 6am, have them in bed, asleep between 6pm-7pm depending on the quality and length of the nap.

  • Our 18 month old has a similar schedule. Up at 5:30 nap at 11:45ish and bedtime at 6:15/6:30. We have tried on several occasions to shift her schedule and never had much luck so we stick with early nap and early bedtime to keep her well rested even if the
  • my LO (15.5 months) can't go much more than 5 hours of awake time. i would aim for an earlier nap and earlier bedtime, as PP have suggested. i may sound like a broken record cause i've posted this before, but when my son seems overtired the earlier he goe

  • We always do the same times, regardless of daylight savings. Of course that means being a little off for a day or two, but they quickly adapt.

Our DS wakes around 8/8:30a, naps around 3/3:30p-5/5:30p, Bath at 7:45p, brushes teeth, storytime, and
