One & Done: Only child

How to get husband on board with one and done

Hi!

I am a big lurker but once I saw this board I had to post. I have found that it is really hard for most people to understand why I only want to have one child. I grew up in a big family and loved it but that is not in the cards for me. I have an 8 month old daughter (tomorrow) and had really bad PPD. I am just starting to feel like myself again. Also, my daughter was an extremely difficult newborn. She has MSPI and cried literally for 6(+) hours a day for the first two months. After switching to the specialized (and expensive) formula she has done a complete 180 and is now a very enjoyable baby.

My problem is that my husband really wants to have another child. I am 99.9% sure that I want to be one and done. How have you all dealt with this? My husband is a great father and part of me feels bad that he won't have another child and my daughter won't have a sibbling. However, there are so many more things we could do if she were an only child. How did you get your spouses on board with being one and done?

  • Thanks for the responses ladies! I have been putting off talking to my husband because I know it will cause some conflict. It is something I need to do though and probably the sooner the better. Looking forward to getting to know you all! Happy Monday
