For those you have used exercise balls

For those who have use one during pregnancy, when did you buy one andstart using it? I wondering when I should order one from amazon.

Ive read how it can help during labor, but I'm interested to hear how its helped with pregnancy. Any special hip exercises to help start labor or did it help with pressure and discomfort?

Re: For those you have used exercise balls

  • I bought one at around 14 weeks to help my posture--the theory behind using it as a seat/bouncing around on it is improving your posture balances your muscle tone in your hips which allows baby to evenly drop into the pelvis, plus sitting on your sit bones prevents the baby from "hammocking" and getting comfortable in a sunny side up position.  (according to spinning babies)

  • I got one around 20 weeks.  I sat/rocked on it a lot in the evenings because it was more comfortable to sit on than the couch.  I thought it really helped with my back/hip discomfort especially as I got further along.  I also spent a lot of time leaning on it (like on hands and knees).
  • Probably around the second trimester. I thought it was more comfortable to sit on than a couch, also. My chiropractor had special exercises for me to do with it, but I don't remember what they were! It was really helpful during both my labors, too.

  • I think I'll probably bring mine to work to sit on a few hours a day in place of my chair. I slouch in my chair.

I did also use it in labour last time - mostly to lean over.

    this.

i ask my students and clients to replace their chairs at home and work with a ball. sit on it while watching tv, reading, folding laundry, eating dinner, whatever. replace that office chair and use a ball instead!

  • Just a thought - unless you have a major reason for ordering from Amazon, you can get them @ Wal-Mart.

  • I've been using mine around the house since about 32 weeks.  Sometimes a chair or the couch just gets uncomfortable.
  • Make sure you get one that fit for you height!  I accidentally got one too small the first time and it was super uncomfortable to sit on.  I bought a bigger one this time and it soo comfy--esp with sacrum pain or sciatica.

    This.

I bought mine after baby turned OP and It helped when she turned OA the day I went into labor.

But I wish I'd bought it earlier. It would have helped, as it was my baby was almost too late to have our homebirth and I had to have acupuncture sessions to turn her.

    Get the exercise ball!

  • PSA that they have anti-burst ones at Target on clearance. I got one for $10. I'm thinking I should have bought a 2nd one so I can have one at the office and one at home.
