Due to medical reasons (IUGR), I will need to deliver at 37 weeks. I am currently on bed rest for both IUGR and preterm labor Assuming my body does not go into full blown labor prior to 37 weeks, my doctor indicated he would consider a low intervention induction with no more than a "whiff" of Pit. If no progress, than a c-section.
Background: 1st baby delivered via emergency c-section due to severe IUGR at 38 weeks. VBAC with 2nd baby at 36 weeks following 5 weeks of preterm labor.
Has anyone had a successful VBAC following a low intervention induction? If so, what methods did your doctor utilize (Foley bulb, small dose of Pitocin, etc.)?
Re: Induction after prior VBAC?
I am not sure how much to consider my vbac an induction or labor augmentation but here goes. My water broke before labor started so I was on 24 hour clock. Since I wasn't dilating on my own, my OB's started with the foley bulb. That got my dilated to 4 cm. After laboring some more on my own with no progress, they started the pitocin. They started with the lowest dose and increased it incrementally every hour depending on my progress. That seemed to do the trick as I had a successful vbac.
GL!
I was 4cm at 39w2d so my OB suggested an induction if I wanted to try for a vbac versus a rcs. I had a low dose of pit, followed by my water being broken an hour after the pit started. Contractions started soon after and ds was born 4.5 hours after pit was started. DS wasn't descended at all prior to the induction so I was shocked it went so fast. It was an amazing experience!! Good luck to you!
My dd was born at 36w6d due to IUGR related to PIH. She was a c-section for being breech.
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
I was induced with low dose pit and broke water. I went in at 2cm already.
I had a c section with my first and induced vaginal births with my other two. The first did not offer to induce until I was 38 weeks, had borderline pre eclampsia and was already 4 cm. She broke my water and used pitocin to induce labor. The second was willing to use a foley bulb if necessary as well as pitocin. I had gestational hypertension and needed to be induced but was at 3 cm when we started so did not need the bulb. The doctor originally said no more than 10 mL/hr of pitocin but ended up going up to 12 at the end.
From what I understand inducing a VBAC or VBAC2+ is fine as long as you avoid cervadil and other chemical methods of cervical ripening and monitor pitocin more carefully.
My water broke with DS, and labor didn't start on it's own, so I was given pitocin, and vbaced successfully.
Eta: Just reread your post, and saw about the whiff of pitocin. I was started on the lowest dose possible, they never had to raise the dose.
