heart rate

Does anyone not monitor their heart rate during exercise while pregnant or if you do, do you ever have days where you push it more than you "should"? I wear a monitor for my spin class and try to stay between 150160 but today i wanted to go all out and not worry abouy it. I only pushed it during one song and watched myself the rest of the time. Just wondering if anyone else has those days where they go harder than they normally would.

Re: heart rate

  • My dr told me when I was pregnant that if I am having a hard time breathing while working out and can't carry on a conversation then my baby is not getting enough oxygen and I need to slow down.

  • I don't monitor my heart rate. I'll occasionally check if I'm on the treadmill or elliptical, but those heart rate monitors aren't necessarily accurate anyway. Generally my body slows me down either with pain or because I can't breathe.

  • I track my heartbeat constantly because I definitely have a tendency to push myself. If I don't watch it, I will get over 160.

I really need to get a good monitor for my wrist that's accurate and that I can use outside of the gym. But for the time being, my nurse midwife said that the biggest concern is making sure I don't overheat. With our metabolisms so high our body temperatures spike easily and it can be hard to get our temps and heart rates under control. So if you start to feel yourself over heating, get in a cool place and drink some cold water.

Really, it's all about listening to your body - as usual!
