I have scheduled a week after the baby is born a newborn photo session that is going to include my husband and I. I met with the photographer today and I told her I wanted to somehow include my first child who I lost in the family photo. I am thinking along the lines of a tiny object that would be in memory of him but I can't think of anything in particular that seems right. I thought of a rose but I don't really like that idea. The photographer suggested a pair of his shoes but honestly an empty pair of baby shoes in the photo seems a little too obvious, I'm looking for something a little more subtle- do you ladies have any suggestions?

Sandy covered most of the suggestions I had. Things like one of his hats, a blanket he used...typical baby stuff. I've also seen pics of the younger sibling next to a small framed photo of the older sibling...though it sounds like you want something more subtle than that. Something that represents your oldest symbolically could work too, like a dragonfly or butterfly pin, for example, could work as well.

I think including something in the picture that's symbolic is a great idea! For example, a friend of a friend always signs her Christmas cards, etc. with the family names, plus a small hand drawn butterfly to represent her baby (that way she was still included with the family - but it's nothing overt). Also, when my boss sent flowers to Ace's funeral he asked the florist to include a toy airplane in the arrangement (The card said "Fly high Ace") and ever since then it's been his symbol for me. Something meaningful to you that makes you think fondly of your LO.

Was Titus given anything that is very special to you, whether it's symbolically or an actual baby item? My sister gave me a pair of earrings with the August birthstone to represent my miscarriage. I wore them everyday until Xavier was born and still wear them very often. I forgot while we were at his newborn photo shoot but I had planned to place the earrings between his toes, kind of like the photos done with wedding bands.
I'm sure whatever you pick will be beyond perfect and will celebrate both of your children's lives. Please let us know what you decide to pick! I know it's still a bit in the future but I'd love to see the picture once you get it back, so please share!
