um... what? i'm still bf'ing. i feel hormonally as normal as i did before i had a baby. which is to say i have ups and downs but nothing egregious. i would say the pp hormonal swings stopped after about 8-10 weeks for me.
I've been bf'ing for 3 months and I feel great. I haven't had any unusual hormonal shifts. I think your friend may be misinformed, or is blaming issues on breastfeeding when there's actually something else going on . I found the feeding itself was really difficult on me until about 8 weeks. Now we're well established and it's great.
Formula is the best thing that ever happened to me and to my DD. I felt SOOO much better, and she is such a happier baby.
I bfed for 8 weeks, I had cut out dairy because she was not tolerating it, but she was still gassy, fussy, not sleeping well, had horrible diaper rash and spit-up rash.
As soon as I started formula she slept through the night, and is hardly ever fussy, very little gas, rashes gone, and I can enjoy her instead of spending all my time feeding her and trying to figure out what was wrong with her.
As for me, I have felt much more hormanally normal, I am happier, my boobs aren't engorged and leaky anymore which makes being in public much more manageable.
Yes, I did see the question was about quitting, but don't you think it's valid for those of us who got back to feeling normal while still breastfeeding to offer some hope? If someone says you will never feel better until you quit breastfeeding, it might be nice to know that it isn't necessarily true.
It took me 8 weeks and a horrendous 6 week growth spurt to feel normal hormonally, and I am still BFing. Just give BFing and hormones a little bit more time, and it will figure itself out. Good luck.

I think it was kind of true for me... I don't really know if it was quitting BFing or returning to work that made me feel "normal." I felt pretty messed up for a long time.?
Re: did you feel back to normal when you quit bfing?
i feel fine now and i'm still BFing.
you are still in the really difficult stage of BFing. ?it gets SO much better in the 6 week - 2 month range. ?i don't know why really, it just does.?

Just my opinion...
