Babies: 6 - 9 Months

switching formulas.....

What would be the best way to go about doing this? We are still staying in the Similac line, but going from sensitive to advanced. I know we need to do it gradually, so do we mix like one scoop in for the first day, then two scoops in the next day and so forth until we are totally switched or is there a better option?

Re: switching formulas.....

  • When we were testing out formulas, we didn't do it gradually. We stayed in the Similac line as well. We tried advance then tried sensitive (DS ended up not doing well on it for some reason--can you projectile spit up). Then we thought he might have a milk allergy and tried Soy, but since the didn't help we just want back to advanced.

I have heard of people mixing formula and milk when they are about a year old and ready to go to milk, so I think if you want to take the gradual approach that what you are suggesting would work.

  • We tried DD on soy for a bit when she was younger b/c we suspected a mild milk allergy (tests were negative, but Dr. said she could have it too mild to show up). We just went straight from advance to soy, and when we determined the soy wasn't making a difference we went straight back to advance, no mixing. Our pediatricians said mixing isn't necessary, but often makes parents feel better.

  • When we went from Gerber Nourish to Gerber Gentle we started with changing one bottle a day and then eventually moved to two and so on until she was only drinking the gentle.

  • My son was BF for the first 6 months..but once we switched to formula we just use whatever we get with coupons.  He switches from generic, to similac, to enfamil, etc with no issues.  Our DR said it was fine as long as it didn't bother him.  It is essentially so similar that it does not bother most babies.
