Disappointed...allergy related

So, Reese went back to the allergist today.

Unfortunately she still tested positive for egg & now peanut. Her tree nut tests and sesame seed test was labeled inconclusive, so my husband is taking her for blood work tomorrow for it.

I was hoping she was starting to outgrow her egg allergy--for months we didn't even know about it, she was eating pancakes & waffles for breakfast. It showed up in her eczema.

I was just hoping for better news. I am hoping that she does end up outgrowing her allergies.

  • :(  I'm sorry. I hope over time she does outgrow it.

  • Allergies are so frustrating!  I hope she outgrows it too.  I keep hearing the 4-5 year mark is a time they outgrow a lot and some even in the teenage years.  I am crossing my fingers!

  • It is frustrating. I hope she does outgrow it. We're hoping DS2 outgrows his dairy allergy, but he already passed the age when the majority of children outgrow it. We're still crossing our fingers though. I wish there was some way to tell:(

  • At age 2, DS tested positive for peanuts, tree nuts, chicken, and eggs.  He had been eating chicken and eggs for a year, so I was confused.  We were told to avoid chicken.  His eczema got a LOT better.  We reintroduced it about nine months later and his eczema stayed very mild.  We are still nut free however.

There is still hope for her!

  • I hope she outgrows the allergies.  DS tested positive for peanut at 1 year old.  Follow up bloodwork at 2 shows the levels have actually decreased.  Our allergist says that some children do outgrow the allergies.  Just try to be very diligent about avoiding the allergens.  It definitely gets easier as time goes by.
  • My DS (2 year old) has a peanut and egg allergy and the allergist told us that about 70% of people will grow out of the egg allergy. He actually said if I try to give it to him bakes at a high temperature into things, he may build up a tolerance. I just can't give him straight eggs or anything where egg is one of the top 5 ingredients...He also said that it's rare to outgrow a peanut allergy, unfortunately.

The allergist also told us that the allergy testing is not 100% accurate (we had blood tests and scratch tests and he tested high on both)...and the only real way to know how severe of an allergy he has is to give him the food in the allergist's office and monitor his reaction....which he said they will do before he goes to kindergarten.

Did they give you an epi-pen?
