We were told C has Sensory Processing Disorder and they noted how oral he is. We are on a waitlist for speech, occupational and feeding therapy. It's great and all but he bit an adult today. I was given a generic list of things to do in order to distract him or re direct the oral fixation but this bite came out of no where. He is 3 so I'm not comfortable with giving him gum, does anyone have any ideas?
Re: I need some ideas oral fixation
Chewy tubes! Chris was "addicted" to his for a while. He's since gotten over his need to chew everything but I remember these. They're great.
this! Our SLP gave us one and it has saved my poor little guys hands! He was biting himself so hard he was leaving marks. Chewy tubes are awesome!
If you are in a pinch (as I myself say "no mouth" 20 or so times a day every day) my SLP recommended the non PCP tubing that wraps around pipes, cutting that, and making your own. 3 feet cost about $3 at our hardware store. She also recommended chewlry for when she gets older or older kids (she is 19 months).
