Advice needed

Hello ladies, DD was born c-section last night after a VERY difficult delivery. Because of blood pressure I wasn't allowed to get up and move around until this afternoon. Because my body seems to be trying to reject most of the pain medication my nurses were giving me, my OB has put me on 10mg Lortab every two hours, which is apparently the legal limit.

This DOES provide relief for about an hour and a half, but what I was wondering, is what would you suggest to help with pain management? They told me because I had to wait so long to walk a lap of the halls is why it was so intensely painful today the two times I did it, and really the left side of the incision is the one that is a searing, stabbing pain every time I move. I am even too afraid to shower even though I DESPERATELY want one!

Thank you in advance ladies. As a FTM I have NO idea what to do here, and am feeling very overwhelmed, lol.

Re: Advice needed

  • I am so sorry you are going through this! It will get better I promise. After my c section I was on a morphine pca, a pain pump, for one day, and I was then switched to Percocet and ibuprofen. I have to admit through it all the ibuprofen has worked better then any narcotic. Maybe they can add that if they haven't already?

Also don't be afraid to take a shower. That was the turning point for me when I finally felt human again.

When I think about my c section it still brings me to tears that I even had to get one. Please don't feel alone, I promise you it does get better and I am not even two weeks out yet. Just make sure you have plenty of help and don't be afraid to take care of you.

  • My first csection was extremely painful, and a lot like you described. As po said the ibuprofen did more for me than narcotics. Moving around balanced with rest and time is really the best cure, no magic I've discovered. Every day you'll feel better, so keep that in mind as you struggle. This time around my second csection was a world of difference... I was in the shower by 5am the next morning, walking the halls, etc.

  • Thank you ladies. It IS very nice and comforting to know that someone else can definitely relate to the pain. I've never even had a major surgery, so I definitely had NO idea that it was possible to feel that sharp stabbing pain!

I have plans to try to walk the halls at least 2 or 3 times tomorrow as well. Moreso afraid of when I get home(dogs, high up bed, ect)

But yes, thank you so much.
