Babies: 6 - 9 Months

In a food rut with my (mostly) BLW baby

So there is absolutely nothing that I have given DS that he won't eat... But lately I feel like I have been giving him the same ol' banana, avocado, sweet potato scenario. I am wanting to try new things with him, but am totally creatively stunted here!!

We've done the above mentioned, and other staples include pear, hummus, toast, zucchini, and beans.

What does a typical meal look like for you girls??  Inspire me!!

Re: In a food rut with my (mostly) BLW baby

  • How about pasta...ravioli, penne, etc.. Other fruit such as melons and peaches..
  • Loading the player...
  • Try a stir fry? I just don't put any sauce on DS's. Pasta, like drbeth said. Chicken or pork and veggies. You could make sweet potato pancakes. I honestly just give DS everything I make, but I make sure everything I make is okay for him, so no or very low sodium, full compliment of food groups during the day, whole foods, etc.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. We do give him whatever we are eating, so long as its "baby appropriate" with low sodium, no honey, etc. just looking to branch out a little and was curious as to if anyone had something they do that I hadn't thought of.

  • Lol I could have wrote this post! We do the same as you, if we cook something lo can eat than she eats with us. But I also keep staples around for everyday use as well, avocado, banana, pears, apples, sweet potatoes, etc.  I recently tried melons, (cantaloupe she loves), blueberries, zuchinni, beans, pasta, waffles, bagels, blueberry pancakes, soups (homemade), etc.  Then ate dinner she's had chicken, pork chops, lamb, hamburger, asparagus, brocolli, peas, carrots, potatoes, orzo.  But I stay home and would love to hear some healthy lunch meal plans that others do with toddlers etc.  Need some good lunch ideas! And healthy soup recipes!

  • How about muffins? I've made carrot and banna muffins (heavy on the fruit or veggies) and savory muffins with lots of carmelized onion, spinach and a little cheese.  I just throw them in the freezer and defrost as needed when I can't come up with anything else. Otherwise its a lot of frozen veggies or fruit at our house.  Thinking about trying to make a zuchini muffin that is mostly zuchinni next.  Or pumkin. Use applesauce or greek yogurt instead of some oil to keep it healthier.

These are also really good options for DH or my sitter who never know what to feed him.

  • I've never even thought about letting my daughter eat hummus! That's a great idea. :) We have done green beans, peas, carrots, cucumbers, bread, sweet potato, potato, black beans, and some other things off of my plate here and there. I'm not very creative either. I usually just let her eat off of my plate!

I'd love to have one of your muffin recipes!
  • Yayyy!!! Fabulous ideas ladies!! I stay home with baby all day as well and lunch is getting bor-ing. Haha!!

great idea about the muffins! I hadn't thought of pancakes either. Oh, and for the momma who hadn't thought of hummus, you've GOT to try it!!! DS is a hummus eating fool!! I will even spread it over some organic toast, cut it up, and we've for very messy hummus toast fingers-so much fun!

to the momma who asked what BLW is, it is Baby Led Weaning. Grab the book by Gill Rapely. You won't be sorry! I have never mashed up or pur?ed a day in my life, and I have got one easy going, eat-anything baby as a result.

  • Don't know if anyone is still reading this but I just made beet pancakes

    https://weelicious.com/2011/06/28/red-beet-pancakes/

Never thought I'd ever eat a beet, guess parenthood really does change us.

Same site has mini meatloafs that I am going to try making and freezing.

Everyday food has a great quinoa pancake recipe.  And I can't find it right now but sweet pototao pancakes made with almond milk have been a huge hit at our house and are mostly sweet potato.

For muffin recipes I tend to just modify what I find online & always double the amount of veggies called for.

These are really good for babies. I just use a lot of frozen leaf spinach
