Pre-School and Daycare

Best magazine for pre-schoolers or kindergarten?

My Mom wants to get D a periodical for Christmas.

I think it's a great idea but I don't know much about them.

Of course I remember Highlights from my own childhood so I'm leaning towards that but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for periodicals for a kid in the 4-5 age range?

TIA!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • I've looked into them all and my favorite is High Five (the Highlights version for younger kids).   A good resource when I was looking was my library... it gave me the opportunity to look through all the magazines for little ones (of course B&N would work well too)!  Anyways, DD has a High Five subscription and loves it.  Well worth the $.

  • We have gotten High 5 for the past year and DD has very little interest in it. I think she would have preferred something like Nat Geo for kids or something.

  • first off my DD favorite 'magazine' is the stupid catalog's that I get from Oriental Trading! lol. But she does love High Five and she also likes Disney's Family Fun which is great for us both!

  • Another Hi 5 lover here.  DD has been getting them for over a year now and still gets excited every time they come in the mail.

I've also heard good things about National Geographic Little Kids/Kids magazines.

  • ds#1 gets "Your Big Backyard" from Nat. Geo. He loves it. Every time the mail man comes he asks if he's gotten another magazine. I actually enjoy it myself and have learned some pretty interesting things about different animals I'd never heard of.

For example ever heard of a spittle bug? Well, we learned it "poops" bubble to protect itself from predators. Ds of course thought that was hilarious.
