Question about my donor stimming??

Hi ladies,

since this is our first DE IVF attempt (never did ivf with OE) I'm not sure what's normal. My donor went in for her first check today. She started stimming on Friday,  (I'm not sure if that makes her stimming for 4 or 5 days ) but my RE's office called and said they were upping her meds due to a slow start. She had 7 follicles on one side and none on the other. Is this ok?? My office didn't seem too concerned but I can't help but freak out a little bit. This is my donors first time donating. All I can think about is we've already dished out close to $5000 in meds...what if she doesn't respond well and we have to cancel :/ hoping you ladies can ease my fears!!

thanks!!

Re: Question about my donor stimming??

  • It's really too early to know at this point. This clinic may only count follicles that are above a certain measurement (my first clinic only counted follies above 12mm). So it might not really be zero on the one side. The 7 on one side is just fine. It is very scary waiting to find out. Hang in there.

  • Yes, I'd agree to give her a little more time before worrying. I can totally understand your concern, but they may just need to tweak her meds and she'll start busting out the eggs. Another thing to consider is quality vs. Quantity - one donor we considered had a lower count of eggs, but a high result...like, 8 eggs with 2 transferred and 5 frozen. I never did one with my own egg either, we went straight to DE so I felt a little in the dark too. Hang in there, fx for productive donor ovaries!

  • I was also going to say keep in mind quality over quantity.

I remember feeling kind of disappointed that my very young donor "only" had 12 eggs retrieved, but 11 were mature and we wound up with 6 high quality blasts.

With my own eggs, I only had 2 to transfer each time, so 1 donor cycle was the equivalent of 3 of my own cycles (in quantity, anyway...not to mention better quality).

P.S.  Being AMA and DOR, I know that 12 is a lot of eggs, but I made the mistake of comparing my donor's egg count to other people talking about retrieving 15 or 20+ eggs...but everyone is  different.

Me: AMA, DOR, undetectable AMH, carrier of SMA, MTHFR homozygous C677T, high cytokines, low IGg B cells, Factor XIII V34l mutation, High Anti-Phosphatidylethanolmine, borderline hypothyroid and mildly insulin resistant.

MH: No known issues, aside from MTHFR.

Recommendations from RI: LIT, Humira, IVIG, Lovenox, Baby Aspirin, Folic Acid, Low-dose synthroid and Metformin.

Currently taking:  Pre-Natal vitamins, Foltanx, Low-dose synthroid and Metformin.

When cycling also taking: Baby Aspirin, Lovenox, Humira and IVIG.

TTC since 7/11/09..with medical intervention starting in 2010, including 4 failed IVF's and 6 failed IUI's...only "success" was a chemical pregnancy in 11/2012 (credited to use of DE).

    FET #1 (11th cycle) on 8/23/13 = BFN.

FET #2 (12th cycle) Transfer of last two (day 6) donor egg blasts on 1/22/14 = BFP, EDD = 10/10/14 (please stick little BOY!)

  • Thank you so much ladies!! I knew you'd be able to make me feel better. Sometimes well a lot of the time my worrying self takes over my rational self. My donor is due to be checked again on Friday so fingers crossed she'll have responded a bit more by then :

  • Is this a proven donor? My donor didn't respond until stimming for like 7-8 nights and stimmed for a total of 14 nights. She was also on 600iu of meds. Mine was a 3rdvtime donor with me, so I knew what to expect. We got 26 eggs from her. So hang in there. If she is a first time donor, they may need to play around a bit. But, like others said, it is still very early. It is all such a nerve racking process.
