Hallmark Christmas movies are cinematic abominations that no one should be subjected to. Well, all Hallmark movies are abominations, but we'll just focus on Christmas for now lol.
Agree 100% @stassischroeder@chichiphin It may be unfair for me to judge, since I haven't actually watched them, but I have a strong suspicion that they're awful and I want no part.
My UO, I don't understand the obsession with monogramming everything for kids. Yes, I kind of live in the South, where it's a big thing, but I still think it's silly. My son has one towel with his initials that my mom gifted him. I just now ordered him a Star Wars blanket for his "big boy" room for Christmas. Otherwise, I don't need his name/initials on everything he wears. I'm also thanking myself for this now, so we can reuse most of his stuff for baby brother.
@mrsvp614 There was one playing in the waiting room when we took DS for his allergy checkup. It was just as awful as you'd imagine. I judge the actors for agreeing to be in them LOL
And I agree about monogramming. Like... why is it a thing??? It's enough work just making my kid look presentable at all, let alone spending the time and money on monogramming. Hard pass.
Oh man I love Hallmark movies. Not for their cinematic greatness. Because obviously I know they’re awful. Lol. But just for the pure joy and holiday spirit. And they’re always happy. It’s funny because generally I love action and crime movies/shows. But there’s just something about Christmas. Even H loves them. It’s our thing. We sit and watch one almost every night. 😂
I also do NOT understand the monogramming. I was just thinking about that yesterday when a friend posted holiday pics on FB of her kids. She gets every single thing monogrammed. Blankets. T-shirts. Sweaters. Headbands. It’s insane. And we aren’t even in the south. I find it so unnecessary.
I can’t stand Hallmark or Lifetime movies. I also don’t really get monogramming, although I will say we have one baby blanket that someone got personalized with DD’s name and I love it and will get a similar one made for this baby. But I am not into monogrammed backpacks or clothes or anything.
my UO: dresses with leggings are more comfortable than pants.
I don't like most movies, including Hallmark and Lifetime.
I also completely don't understand monogramming. I don't think it's a thing here in the Pacific Northwest. I guess I have nothing against it...?
@kantobean and @miss.sally I'm also team leggings are pants for life! No shame in my leggings to work every day game.
Here's my UO *sharp inhale* I don't care about your ultrasounds. For whatever reason, I'm barely even into mine. I think it's neat to see baby and all, but I'm still really "meh" about it. I have all of ours just stuffed into a drawer. This is the second time I'm asking this today, but does that make me a monster?
I wrote mine down so I would remember when Thurs rolled around. It's maybe more of a pet peeve? Anyway, on my local mom forum ppl are always asking for free baby holiday dresses or free random expensive things because they "will only use it once." Like, what do you think the ppl who are giving you this free stuff did? The purchasers knew they were buying an expensive Christmas dress for just one hour of the baby sitting on Santa's lap and still bought it. Why do you think you deserve a free dress (or noise canceling headphones or what-have-you) when the other person paid for it and only used it once also?
I have actually given a lot of these moochers free stuff or stuff to borrow for the "just once" even though I judge the cr4p out of them while offering them the item. (Would like to point out that this group does not have needy moms--it's a group you have to pay dues to be in and is a small group where we all know each other.)
I’m a sucker for hallmark movies 😳😬🤷🏻♀️ We don’t have hallmark right now though so I guess I’m missing the movies this year... I know they’re awful but sometimes it’s nice to just watch something cheesy and cheery.
I also don’t get monogramming. Also I’ve heard not to put your kids name on their backpack and stuff bc of stranger danger. I may be overly cautious about kidnapping and stuff bc TW:
A girl I was friends with who lived in my neighborhood as a child was kidnapped as a child and later found murdered. So my parents obviously stressed stranger danger after that and it’s kind of stuck with me. I get chances are low but it happens...
+1 to leggings are pants. I didn’t used to feel that way until becoming a mom though and then I was like damn these are so comfy why did I ever wear anything else?
@keeksie84 Oh man I’ve wondered if I’m a monster too bc of that... I like my u/s pics but haven’t shared any bc honestly I don’t see why anyone else cares...
@silverhope that is obnoxious and I see that on mine too. Or the opposite moms selling junk that really should just be given away. I’ve asked my moms group if I could buy one time use stuff bc it seems wasteful to buy it new for one day. Like DS needed shoes for a wedding so I asked if anyone had any dress shoes in his size and said I’d either pay for them or if I could just borrow them for the weekend whichever they preferred. Unfortunately in that case no one had any so I just bought black sneakers and figured he’s a toddler who cares what is on his feet as long as it’s neutral.

@varimama yesss on people trying to sell stuff that they should just donate. Also I get when ppl are like, "oh shoot my kid has a school recital tonight and forgot to buy my son X, does anyone have one I can borrow in his size?"
@keeksie84 Not a monster at all! I’m the same, Especially with baby #2. I also would never spend hundreds of dollars on a 3/4D ultrasound, unless it was medically necessary. It’s cool when I’m actually getting an ultrasound to see the baby, but the pics are not exciting to me.
@varimama, @keeksie84, @mrsvp614 - I haven't been into ultrasounds of this LO either, mostly because she is always curled up in a ball and we haven't gotten any good profile shots. Now I feel bad because I didn't take the same care with her pics the way I did with my first 2... but then, those first 2 were fairly good shots that showed their facial profile. It's made me kind of feel less invested in this pregnancy for some dumb reason.
I'll go with the consensus and just say no to monogramming... I've never done it or gotten the point of it either. I've never sat through an entire Hallmark movie, but I've watched some Lifetime movies.. and I definitely have to be in the right kind of 'mood' for it. If I'm feeling sappy/romantic, then it's ok, otherwise it's boring to me.
@silverhope, my pet peeve is similar - people who are selling things but they put way too high of a price on them. like I'm going to buy your second-hand crib/stroller that costs the same as a brand new one!
@keeksie84 lol you're not a monster. I'm mildly fascinated by my baby's u/s pics, but mostly enjoy seeing her during the u/s. I have them on my phone so that I can show people who ask, but I never did anything with DS's pics and I can't imagine I'll do anything with this baby's. I don't mind seeing other peoples', but I have a hard time oooohing and aaahing over them. Unless your tech caught your baby doing something remarkable, like playing a tiny guitar, they all look the same.
@miss.sally@varimama LOL as long as you understand how inherently horrible they are I suppose I have some horrible, cheesy music that I enjoy (whist understanding how fundamentally horrible it is). I can understand how sometimes it's nice to have something cheery and positive on, or finding comfort in something. Hell, I leave The Office or Friends on our TV as background noise because I find it comforting.
@silverhope your new profile pic is totally throwing me off And yeah, we see ridiculous stuff like that around here too, and I totally judge people for it.
@stassischroeder I don’t know who I know IRL that would have the energy/time to stalk what I am saying on here and figure out it’s me, but I keep getting paranoid so I decided to remove my wedding pic.
@keeksie84 glad it’s not just me! I haven’t even opened the U/S thread. Lol. I sort of care about my own? But I’ll be honest I put a pic on my fridge after my a/s a month ago and I just looked at it yesterday and was like....what IS that? Lol. My kid is a blob.
@keeksie84 oh god, one of my former coworkers put an ultrasound pic for his first ON A MUG that he then put in the communal office mug collection. Threw it out the second he left the org.
