My new OB doesn't measure me...

I changed OBGYNs at 16 weeks and I noticed my OB doesn't measure me.  I thought maybe she will start with the 3rd trimester but at 30 weeks she hasn't done anything yet.  Is this normal? I'm going to ask on Monday at my next appt but I was just curious to see what you all thought.

Re: My new OB doesn't measure me...

  • The first time my OB measured me was at 26 weeks. But, for what it's worth, I don't know what the norm is. I'm a FTM.

  • Hmm... seems a little out of the norm. Definitely worth asking your doctor at your next appointment!

  • Mine has only measured me my last 2 appts. and I'm at 30 weeks.  I would ask if I were you?

  • I just turned 29 weeks had my appointment at 28 weeks. They still have not measured me.

  • I don't get measured either. I'm 29 weeks, and I have had weekly appointments since 24 weeks. She just feels for the top of my uterus.

  • Mine started at my 24 week appointment, but I think all OBs are different.  I think some just feel for the top of your uterus.

I'm with a Midwife for this pregnancy, but this was my experience with both of my daughters. I think maybe after they've been in practice for a while, they've just done it so many times, they will know based on that.

  • They don't even feel my stomach.  All she does is listen for the heartbeat.  It's good to know some OBs are different but I'm definitely going to ask.

  • my first pregnancy (2009) my doctor measured me at every appointment after the first. This pregnancy, with the same doctor, he didn't measure me until this last appointment.

  • Mine started measuring my belly really early on 16 weeks. I'd mention it!
  • I changed my ob/gyn at 20 weeks, funny you mention that because my new one doesn't measure me at all. They just do a quick ultrasound to check heart and measure her. My old one measured every appointment after 8 weeks...hmmm defenatly worth asking!
  • I personally think the measuring is so off that it is pointless. Us women come in all shape and sizes and there is no reason to think that we would all fit into a certain measurement. 4 weeks ago I was measuring 7 weeks ahead, yesterday 4 weeks ahead. I am in no way concerned and neither is my OB. She has measured me to make sure i am making progress but really it all depends on your body type and baby's position. I never understood why they do it. Maybe someone can clear that up for me. I think it just gives some people more to worry about. Just cause you are measuring ahead or behind does not mean that you will have a big/small baby. Even growth u/s that give an estimated weight are .... (can't think of a word) since they give a +/- 2 lb range. As long as baby is progressing and OB is happy.I wouldn't be to worried about it.

This exactly. Don't stress over it. My OB does measure, but never tells me what the measurement is, lol. I wouldn't care either way, though.

    OMG too many tickers...
