My FFFC: I'll be relieved when Grant has to get a feeding tube. I've stopped forcing feedings and I'm just waiting for a doctor to tell us it is time.
I can understand that. Forcing him to eat all this time couldn't have been fun. I hated trying to force Lucia to drink enough formula, and that was for a shorter amount of time and was only part of her eating. I can't imagine trying to do it all the time!

This. Trying to get kids to drink when they don't want to is so frustrating. Hang in there Preggers.  Hope you are seeing at least a few positives.  Wish I could watch Grant for you for a while to give you a break too.

I posted that!!!!!!!  Your mom is my hero and you can tell her I said that!  I was beating myself up over not being able to BF and that article seriously talked me off the ledge.

    I knew I liked you!!!!!

I did tell her about the post, but I'll let her know she's your hero Smile If you have any questions about PCOS, let me know and I can pass them on to her. She's more than happy to answer any questions!

  • I ordered 10 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from my niece. That includes 5 different flavors.

My confession is that if my cousin's daughter or any of my co-workers' kids are selling Girl Scout cookies, I will probably order another box or two from them as well. Just, you know, to be fair.

  • Redhead, I'm mad at the Girlscouts because they got rid of my favorite cookie...the lemon shortbread, or whatever they were.

Ooooh. That sounds yummy! Now I'm mad at them too! I would have totally ordered that one too!

Also, you deserve every penny you get from your ex!

So we want back and forth except when we don't want back and forth. Got it.

Oh my god.  I don't see how no one else can think that RN saying what Starbuck said is terrible and refer to splitting open a baby's head is not actually productive debate and discussion.

But whatever, I obviously need to step away.

Jen, I'm with you on this one.

Apparently they're available in certain areas, but you can't get them unless they're in your area.

And thanks. I just have a soft heart and compassion towards people...even when they're undeserving!

I guess I have an FFFC. I use the term natural birth, even though I know it irritates some people. Until someone can explain to me how an epidural is natural, though, (or how going med-free is not), I don't really understand the argument against it.

I agree with you on this.  I see natural birth as not taking so much as a tylenol during birth.  I am not saying either is better or worse, for me it was just what I wanted.  But I use natural birth when speaking of med free because to me a natural birth is doing it as though you are in the woods alone (lol, funny image!)  I don't think epidurals are bad by ANY means but nobody will ever convince me that they could be called "natural".

I really thought DD was going to be an early walker. She has been cruising for months and months, but has yet to take an independant step. She will stand by herself until she notices she isn't holding on and then she falls. She has only stood a couple times for more than 10 seconds. She totally could do it, but is too timid. She is a crazy crawler and knows she can et around fast like that.

I know she isn't actually behind but here comes the FFFC part:

I will be really sad/frustrated/ a little ashamed, if she is not walking for her birthday. I know it is terrible to judge her on such an arbitrary day, and there is nothing I can do about it. But I am already embarressed when people ask me if she is walking and I can't say yes. I want her to show off her mad walking skills at her party, not sully her nice dress while crawling. Yup, its totally selfish, I know she doesn't care, its just the competive Mommy coming out.

well, my baby is not crawling or walking. How does that make me feel?

By that definition, unless you were in the middle of the woods alone you wouldn't call it natural birth.  And then that term would become pretty obsolete.  There are lots of things we use now during birth (heat in our homes, in our birthing centers or in our hospitals) that are different than how it would be if you gave birth in the woods.

I know this thread is dead, but I just had to chime in and say I totally agree with this.  I think it's a ridiculous thing to care about, and I really think the only people who care are those who went med-free.  I proudly own the fact that I got an epidural, so it doesn't make a difference to me if you call my birth unnatural.

To me it's the same as those who want to argue about what EBF means.  Who cares.  Apparently if you've ever given your baby formula, you lose the ability of being able to say you EBF.  Ok...so what happens now?  Do you get your medal taken away?

  • Gasp! My medals!! I have several, actually. Not only was our birth natural, but I made sure to sacrifice at an altar first. You know, I wanted a holier than though birth. Then we EBF and it has made Nat so smart she is already prepping for the SAT! We have math tutoring on Monday. We are also attachment parents so we carry her everywhere. In fact we have done so well, she has never touched the ground! We don't approve of learning to move. Causes too many problems down the road with needing leashes and whatnot. Yes, see how I solved this problem? And Nat NEVER cries! She doesn't have to because not only am I right there but I can just whip out a boob anywhere to calm her. Yes, in public too. I have no shame. I am super mom!

Sorry this was written just for fun. Mommy wars are just silly as if one mom is not trying more than another to do what's right for their families.

  • Oh for Pete's sake. Where in my comment did I say that one was better than the other? Nobody said that, no need to get all defensive.

You wanna know why I wanted a natural birth? I hate IVs and needles, and I don't like how I feel on pain meds. Not because I wanted a medal. FCOL.

    Pass the sheet cake.

I can't for the life of me figure out FCOL. Sad

Are we really "debating" this? Come on, people... get a life. (sorry to be harsh, it's just what I think)

I don't care one way or another how anyone births their child, as long as they do what they feel is in the best interest of their health and their child's health. I also don't care how you label that birth. A baby was born, who cares about the semantics?

Kle, I can completely understand wanting to have a birth free from medical intervention and medication (there, is that PC enough everyone?!) because of the fear of needles and wanting to avoid the pain-med haze. I have faced exactly 3 needles in my entire life without my Mom holding my hand, and the entire time I really wanted her there because they freak me the hell out. Seriously, the IV was the worst part of my 42-hour, eventful labor and delivery.

I'll give anyone who bears, births, and cares for a child a medal as long as you're trying to do what's best for that child. There! Medals all around!

Since this FFFC has pretty much bombed anyways, I will go ahead and share this here. I don't get involved in the debates or back and forth a lot of the time because by the time I get here it seems isolated between 2-4 posters, and if I do post something it goes unnoticed, or is redundant. Since we know everyone better now, I think we expect certain bumpies to get involved in discussions, and we know that they will take control of it. Or maybe that is just how I feel about it.

This 100% - it's one bummer about not being able to Bump at work and being in a different time zone.  It's rare that I get to make a valuable contribution, but after reading hundreds of these debates, I feel like it's already expected who the main contributors will be... Sometimes even when I could say something now, I don't, because I know someone else will probably share my opinion in a more confident manner ;)

I think the point of this was the term being used, not medals and who is better, blah blah.  The point was that if I call my "med free birth" a "natural birth" that does not mean I am trying to offend someone who had an epidural.  That is just the term I choose.
