We have been trying to conceive since June 2012. I know it hasn?t been a year yet, but I have already been referred to a fertility doctor and just waiting for the appointment to arrive?
I am wondering if any of you ladies have had a Leep procedure and are having tttc? I had a Leep done in 2006. I had the same doctor until 2010, but I changed jobs so I lost my insurance. Since getting married in May I now have insurance and a new doctor. She mentioned that I have a TON of scar tissue from the procedure and cervical stenosis. This was the first mention of any problems. I was extremely upset that my prior doctor never once mentioned anything about this. I was on birth control and very rarely got a period, so it never crossed my mind anything was wrong. The only recent ?period? I?ve had was in July after I went in for a second pap because she couldn?t get the cells she need because of the scar tissue so she dilated my cervix (resulting in bleeding for 1 day). Since then I have not had a period, but each month around the time I should get it I have been experiencing beyond painful pain about 2 inches below my belly button (I get cramps too, but I can live with those). I have been prescribed Provera twice to induce a period, and nothing? We have done blood work and everything checks out fine. I have also been taking ovulation test and have been ovulating (last was positive J December 29th & cramps and abdominal pain Jaunary 12th to 15th).
I have read on blogs that it is possible for a cervix to be ?scarred shut? basically not allowing the lining to actually leave the body during menstruation. In return I feel like that would also prevent any sperm from entering there either. I feel like that could possibly be the problem being: provera didn?t work, I?m ovulating, get cramps every month, and blood work checks out fine. I?m looking for advice and guidance on things to ask the doctor, or anyone that may have fertility problems related to a Leep.
Re: Trouble Trying to Conceive after LEEP Procedure
Hi and welcome,
I had a LEEP years ago as well and it caused considerable scar tissue. Probably your best bet will be IUI (assuming your husband's SA checks out ok and you have no other issues) since it will bypass the cervix completely.
Good luck to you and ask all the questions you can think of.
I don't have anything to contribute really, but I just wanted to say I wish you the best of luck.
I had a LEEP done in 2011 and have been told at the followups it healed well, and my RE hasn't mentioned anything, so I assume all is well for me (that said, we went directly to IUI ourselves)...
I'd get your GYN to take a look at it and determine if it's passable or not. IUI may be a good option for you if your cervix is damaged, but I would also be asking questions about how the scarring would impact pregnancy and birth as well as those were huge concerns of mine when I went in for my own LEEP.
