LO needs a helmet

Just found out today at the doctor that my LO has to be fitted for a helmet.  I know it is for his benefit but I just don't want him to be uncomfortable.  Any one have any experience with this or advice for me?

Re: LO needs a helmet

  • we just finished with our helmet. After the first week, it was no biggie for my daughter. She adjusted to it just fine and actually looked pretty darn cute in it.  It was a committment to go to the weekly appointments, but I am glad we did it.  We did get some good correction.  I would do it over again in a heartbeat.

  • I think they get used to their helmets pretty soon. I have to admit, I think they look so adorable with them on!

  • My LO has been wearing a helmet since september... he has never been uncomfortable wearing it... in fact, we had it off for a couple days because of an adjustment to his fitting... and he slept worse without it! :)

i am really happy with the results so far. :)

  • We just got ours last week- and I agree with PP- DS has no issues with it.  He fusses when we go to take off/on but that's it.

I think it's harder on mom.  I personally am having issues dealing with the stares and rude comments.  From grown people.  I am SHOCKED.  Maybe bc I deal with people who have disabilities more frequently than most, I assume everyone just doesn't see the issue, whatever it may be.  The worst was I caught a lady trying to sneak a cell phone picture of my child.

Honestly, if I make it thru the next 6 months without being jailed for assault, I will call it a success.  :-)
