Trouble TTC

Told Family about IF Struggle

So, my DH and I came clean with his parents last night about our struggles and my upcoming Laparoscopy. I got AF yesterday (Shortest cycle ever 17 days) and thought now was the time. We didn?t tell them every little detail, but told them enough to understand why we seem withdrawn and explained that sometimes it is really hard to put the happy face on.

It went well; I was surprised as the last family member on his side we told anything to was his Brother who proceeded to tell everyone we were doing fertility testing. To put it mildly, my trust in people has been ruined due to his behavior.

To anyone out there who struggles with IF who wonders if they should talk to their family, I would suggest it. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Re: Told Family about IF Struggle

  • Glad it went well! I felt like a huge weight had been lifted after I told both our parents. My mother even told me that she had difficulties which would have been nice to know earlier.

    Best of luck to you!

  • I completely agree. my DH and i have been open with both of our parents the whole time (from starting to ttc to now)  and they have been nothing but supportive. I know that when it does happen for us then the joy and happiness will but so much more since they know the struggle. Sorry about your BIL's behavior...

  • Glad it went well :)  I completely agree that telling your families is so much easier than keeping it between you and your DH.  We didn't tell everyone in our family, but my parents and sister and his mom and his sister know and they have all been a HUGE support system to us.  I couldn't imagine going through this journey without all of them by our sides.  It also stops a lot of the questioning or wondering why we don't have kids yet.  So glad things went well and you feel in a better place about it all.

  • I agree. I told my mom before I went to see an RE and my MIL knew when we told her I was having a Lap. My SIL has known we were TTC all along since we were high school friends and it was nice to have someone to confide in. I finally have her permission to tell my brother before I had the Lap.

It feels better now that they know and I was able to tell them to stop saying all the things that hurt women when they're TTC. They were unaware and never thought it was rude to ask about people sex lives or offer TTC advice.

I'm glad it went well for you and you feel good about it.

  • Glad it went well!  I've told my mom.  But DH doesn't want to tell him family... even though I think we should.  They constantly ask "so.. any news?"  I'm not sure if he doesn't want to tell because of the MFI.  I told him that we didn't have to go into detail and tell them that.  But - it's his parents so I'll let him make the decision whenever he's ready!

    Good luck with everything!
