Moving across country

I've posted on here a couple of times that I'm really unhappy in my current position. Well, on Monday I accepted a position with a large company in Virginia. So, in late March we are moving from California to Virginia. Sadly, we will have to celebrate LO's birthday a couple of weeks early because she and I are flying to Virginia on the weekend after her birthday and DH isn't joining us for another week. Also, we currently live about 2 miles from my in-laws, who were really unhappy that we were considering moving. DH still hasn't told them that I accepted the offer. Telling them is going to be ugly and they'll likely throw guilt trips at us for the next two months.

We're excited, sad, scared, and every other emotion you can imagine. There's really no point to this post other than to say, OMG WE'RE MOVING TO VIRGINIA!

  • Congratulations on the new position. It can be hard to live away from family members--we've never lived near family--but sometimes that's what needs to be done.

Will this put you closer to your family?

  • Congratulations! Not to be creepy, but I've been wondering how the interview went and what you were going to do. I know that's a big change, but hopefully you'll finally work in an environment you enjoy! Good for you! And we're postponing LO's birthday for 2 weeks because DH has a performance the weekend of DS's birthday. Of all of the birthdays to change, this is definitely one of them!

  • Congratulations!  That's awesome that you made a decision for yourself and your family.  I think there's lots of people who wish they were in your position, but are too scared to move in this economy - so BIG props to you.  Good luck on your big move and in the new position.

  • PS - I'm rarely on a computer, so I can never see everyone's signatures.  Your LO is adorable! I love the pigtails.

  • YAY!! congrats on your new job and your new life!  It will be sooooo exciting.  Yes your in-laws will be sad, but if it helps, we actually see my in-laws who live out of state more often than my folks who live across town.  When the in-laws come to visit we set aside time that is just their time and we all get to play and "enjoy" it (and they come visit 1 to 2x's a year).  not like my folks who we only see for a couple of hours here and there because day-to-day life is hectic.

I hope you love virginia and I wish you the best of luck

  • I moved from California to Virginia, and I love it here. Wait till you see the TRAFFIC! NOT! lol
  • Honestly - kudos to you for making such a big change in your life! That is so exciting. Don't let the in-laws ruin it for you guys - it is your life, and you have to do what is best for your little family. If you are miserable in your current position, that is affecting your quality of life! Also, the East Coast is an amazinggg place to live!

  • Thank you to all for the support!

Unfortunately, this puts us further away from my family too (someone asked that). DH told his parents last night. It should make for a fun drop off this morning (MIL watches LO). On the up side, last night we were looking at the houses we could buy for less in northern Virginia than our townhouse here in Los Angeles. That got us excited!
