Do you find any difference with these 2 brands? DS was given megabloks for his b-day but I always hear about Duplos and see them advertised. Is It just bc Legos brand is more well known?
There is a big difference in size. Mega Blocks are large and awesome for little hands and more easily put together/taken apart. Duplos are smaller, great for older toddlers who have stopped putting everything in their mouth because they do have some smaller pieces, and are a little tougher to put together/take apart. They are pretty much the same thing as Legos but bigger. We have both and both get used, but I wouldn't recommend Duplos until they are 2+.

We have both. DS and I both prefer the duplos. The mega blocks don't stay put together. He's had Legos since he was 14 months and does fine with them. He brings his bucket of "blocks" to whatever room I'm in to play. We also have the duplo mat and some duplo animals. That may be why he likes them better than the mega blocks.
We prefer Duplos. Mega Bloks don't stay together very well. A has been able to put together and pull apart Duplos since 15 months. He still puts everything in his mouth but we took out the very smallest things (like flowers) and he's been fine with the rest.
we have both but are hangin on to duplos for when LOs are older bc their smaller and LOs still put everything in their mouths. mega blocks are larger and LOs love them. my mil got us the duplos so eventually we'll use them

We bought DD mega blocks for Christmas, and we haven't noticed any issues with them not staying together. She shoves everything in her mouth, so the duplos were not an option for us
My LO rarely puts toys in his mouth, even when he was smaller. Duplo is better hands down for us. If you're worried about toys in the mouth, you could definitely take out the smaller pieces and just leave the actual blocks.
IMO mega bloks aren't as good quality. He got a set hand-me-down and they feel cheap (the plastic feels softer/thinner) and don't fit together as well as his Legos. Some pieces lock together, but others just fall right apart. We ended up donating those after Christmas.
LO has received both. Megabloks do go together more easily but they start to fall apart once stacked five or six high. Which isn't really a big deal. After months of using Megabloks, he finds the extra effort to snap together Duplos frustrating.

It's probably all personal preference, though.
