We rent our house and I've bought 2 different kits with cabinet locks/outlet covers/doorknob covers, etc....Problem is that for the single door cabinets that do not have one right next to them, the locks need to be screwed in to the door and we can't do that in a rental. I bought these for cabinets with 2 doors side by side: https://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-SecureTech-Cabinet-Lock/dp/B00155WJMQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1357930377&sr=1-7
Anyone have a good suggestion with a lock that doesn't need to be drilled into the cabinet? I also need these for drawers, same problem there. TIA

It's like most things with kids if you expect them and teach them to be good they will. If you expect them to be trouble they will.
I have a very strong willed 2 year old and a very active 8 month old and we do just fine with no locks.
I think that taking the precautions is good, because god forbid one day a child decides to venture into a cabinet that has something dangerous. Even if they know that they are not allowed, and have obeyed in the past, there is nothing to say that they won't maybe try to get into something they shouldn't..and in the event that happens, I can't imagine anyone blaming it on poor parenting. They are children and curiosity will get the best of them sometimes. I personally would rather lock my drawers and cabinets and babyproof while teaching what is ok and not ok than not babyproof just to be safe.

Teaching a child right and wrong does not mean that child will always choose what is right.
Would you keep a loaded gun unlocked and rely on your children to leave it alone just because you told them so? (I'm hoping the answer to this question is no). It doesn't make any more sense to leave cabinets/drawers containing knives, poisonous household cleaners, or anything else that could harm them unlocked and accessible.
While supervision can prevent a lot, it's just not possible to keep an eye on them every minute of every day.
