Wide Gates?

Has anyone found a non-custom solution for a really wide stairwell?  Our basement stairs has an open landing with a diagonal start that's almost 60 inches wide.  I told DH when he designed it that he needed to come up with a solution before we had a little one. Apparently the 3 years it took us to conceive was a little too speedy for him. . . Grrr. It IS a beautiful staircase so there's still that to like about DH and his carpentry skills.
