Peanut Allergy Question

We took our DDs to Froyo world. Our younger DD has allergies to peanuts/tree nuts and dairy, soy and wheat. My DH carried her stood off to the side while my other DD and I made our ice cream. We then sat down and went to take off DDs jacket (she hadnt touched anything) and she had hives on her face and neck. My question is, is it possible for her to get hives because there were peanuts and other kinds of nuts in the ice cream shop?

Re: Peanut Allergy Question

  • Yes, unfortunately. Either from airborne particles, or did she touch the table or chairs?  They could have trace amounts too. My dd had a reaction at a restaurant once though we'd brought everything for her. The doc thinks the likely culprit was the highchair, which probably rarely gets wiped up.

Lots a jungle out there, good luck :)

  • Has she been tested?  Some people do react to airborne particles unfortunately.  Assuming you have an allergist, I'd touch base with him/her about this.
  • Maybe don't assume it was the peanuts though?  My DS has peanut/lentil/milk and would react to highchairs that were not thoroughly cleaned.  I'm certain it was the milk though b/c this was several times at DC (which is nut-free).

  • Yes she was tested. She has a dairy, peanut, tree nut, egg, soy and wheat allergies. We do have another DD that does eat eggs and we do have dairy in the house. The only thing we dont have in the house is any nuts. That is why I jumped to conclusions that is was the nuts. She did not sit in a high chair or touch anything. We have an appointment with our allergist for her asthma in a few days and I will ask him then, I just wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this
  • Absolutely.

My nephew breaks out if he's around eggs. He's even more allergic to nuts so he stays faaaaaaaaar away from those.
