No schedule is biting me in the butt

Hi everyone!  I've just recently logged back on to the bump after a few months away.  (and btw- what an entertaining time to choose to sign back on!)

DD and I don't have much of a schedule during the afternoon, but tend to follow the same bedtime routine.  She is EBF but now just trying out a few solids.  I BF on demand and she usually will fall asleep in my arms and not want to be put down in her crib.  It's fine for lazy days when I have nothing to do, but it's getting kind of old now.  The only time she will go down for a nap in her crib is if DH puts her down.  He has a knack for it, I guess.  It didn't seem to be a big deal as she was getting plenty of sleep at night, but now she decided STTN was soooo last month, and she seems much fussier (aside from the normal teething stuff).

ANYWAY, I'm wondering how you all came into your own schedule and how often it changes.  Also, if anyone out there is like me and allows each day to be different, is it working out for you?

  • Daycare and I go with the flow and follow his cues.

  • We follow his cues, but I'm starting to be able to anticipate when he's getting hungry or tired just based on the time of day. It's pretty regular now for the past few weeks, though the times shift a little in one direction.
  • He set his own schedule. I fed on demand, put him down for a nap when he looked tired, and after the first couple of months, he just kept eating and sleeping at the same times every day.

  • I follow his cues. This avoids meltdowns. Although, he is starting to set his own somewhat since he wakes up and goes to bed at the same time.

  • I give my baby what he needs when he needs it - that is our only routine. Because my workday (Monday through Thursday) and weekend (Friday through Sunday) schedules are so different, it's just too hard for us to set a real" schedule."

  • I follow her cues as much as possible.  One day she'll take a nap around 1 pm that will last at least an hour.  The next day she'll take three 20-minute naps.  She's unpredictable.  I just wish I had at least a window of time every afternoon that I know she would nap.
