Toddler talk

Are "L" sounds really difficult for toddlers?

LO is really getting a large vocabulary, but she is insistent that milk is pronounced like "mice" and ball is "bop". It's really cute!

Any other words your toddler says in a funny way?

Re: Toddler talk

  • DS has no problem with the L, at the end of the word, ball was his first clear word he said with intentionas opposed to dadada or mamama.

However, I have noticed he says some things backwards; for example the word cama, is Spanish for bed, he pronounces "maca", instead of up he says "puh", I don't know if this is normal or not.

My favorite right now are please "peesh" and outside "shide". I love toddler talk.

  • L and R sounds aren't developed usually until second grade. Then if your child still can't say them you should seek professional help. Some kids get it early on others have trouble with it-don't worry yet.

  • As PP said... the L sound at the end of the word is good...ex. Ball.  However, any L sound at the beginning of the word is not happening...too bad his name is Luke. :)  When asked his name, at first it was Guke, and now it's Yuke.... I know it will come eventually.... I'm enjoying his new nicknames in the mean time. :)
