I absolutely love the name Soren for a boy (not made up)
Lately I can't think of a girl name that I like at all...
So, would it be terrible to name a girl Sauren? Pronounced the same as Soren, but more feminine, like Lauren.
Honestly, normally I hate made up names... But I love the name Soren so much!
Re: I made up a name...
LOL This is EXACTLY the first thought that popped into my head. Don't do it. Find an actual girl's name.
Agree with both of these.

Is it pronounced like Lauren? Because I wasn't sure how to pronounce either Soren or Sauren. It also made me think of the evil character "Sauron" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I don't really know what constitutes an official name vs. a made up name. Didn't all names have to be "made up" at some point? So while I don't personally think it's catastrophic to make up a name, the questions I would ask are what might she think of it? Would she tire of constantly explaining, pronouncing, and spelling it..."
Sauren also makes me think "sour".
ETA: Clearly the LOTR reference is popular!
this - just use Soren for a girl.
Ah-ha! I knew it sounded sci-fi to me, but couldn't place it.
OP, I'd stick with Lauren. Or BTN says that Severina is the female variant of Soren.
Use Soren
Love
I honestly wouldn't think twice about it because I have only known one (male) Soren in real life and I wouldn't be sure without looking it up if it was a unisex name or not. I would use Lauren though. I love that name.
BTN also connects Soren to Sorin (also masc), but the fem of Sorin is Sorina, which isn't so bad. (Severina looks like a Harry Potter name to me, even though I know it's legit).
I would still just call her Soren, you have to go back through several variants to get to one that has a meaning (Severus=stern) and the only major association I think people will have is Kierkegaard... and I'm not sure that many people are going to look at a baby girl and go, "Why is she named after a Danish philosopher?")
People who aren't familiar with German/Danish names may not even know it's a boy's name.
I would side eye Soren for a girl, and would full-out eye roll Sauren.
I know a woman named Sorina--how about that?
Or, save Soren (which I like very much) for a future boy and keep looking.

Yes it would be terrible.

And how is Soryn not made up? Link please. Or are "made up" and "intentionally misspelled" completely different things?
Soryn, other than having the terrible "feminine y," makes me think of Soarin' - the ride at Disneyland.
I do adore PP's suggestion of Seren.
Just because you have a y in the name doesnt make it made up or misspelled. Why do you all think that?

My first thought too. Sorry, OP, I'd say keep looking.
Since my name is Lauren, I like that.
But also, to add, I believe Soren and Lauren are not pronounced the same.
Sore-en (or the correct Scandinavian way is really sir-in ) and Law-ren (think of the word laundry...)
You could always do Loren, which would sound like Soren.
But please don't do Sauren. It makes me think of dinosaurs.
Behind the Name doesn't have it: https://www.behindthename.com/names/search.php?nmd=n&terms=soryn
Which, to me, makes me believe that the Soryn "variant" is just someone sticking a Y into a perfectly good name at some point in time to be unique. Or to make it feminine.
I allow for the fact I could be completely wrong on this, but I tend to default to the Behind the Name website for "real" names and their etymologies.
Even if that is the case that doesn't make it a non-real name. Many names that are now "real" names started as a variant of a different name. Kayden is a "real" name and that is a variant of Kaiden. Obviously someone put a y in to make it more feminine and now it is "real" (accounting to your site). So why is it so bad to put a y in to make a name feminine? It doesn't mean it is misspelled and who knows in 5 yeas Soryn might just make it to that list as a "real" name. All names start somewhere.

These pronunciations depend on your regional accent. Where I am from (CA), Soren and Lauren rhyme. (Lauren is LOR-en like mow or low.)
I knew you'd show up sooner or later
