Prunes or Blood in Poop?

LO Loves prunes and eats them A LOT!  However, about 3 or 4 days ago I noticed that her poop had clumps of purply-red in it.  I say purple because it was dark but also lighter shades more red-looking.  I saw no mucus, she has been on antibiotics for an ear infection, though.  She's been eating prunes for quite some time now but this is the first time that I noticed her poop to look like this.  I have been mixing it w/ oatmeal or rice cereal for about the last week so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.  She just had her well-baby checkup and everything was normal, no fever, etc.  So do you think it's just prunes? I hope so!

Re: Prunes or Blood in Poop?

  • We recently had this happen while on antibiotics. It happened while he was taking Cefdinir. Our pedi recommended adding yogurt and a probiotic, like culturelle, just in case.

Prunes are his favorite and we've never had anything like it coinciding with them.

    hope this helps!

  • Has she had any diarrhea lately? Aubrey had this happen once or twice and it was about 2-3 days after she had some diarrhea and again 2-3 days after she had some harder stools. Her doc said as long as there is no mucus that it's just her rectum being irritated by either too hard of stool or diarrhea. She said to only worry if there is mucus and a lot of it.

I hope she is doing better!
