Got my "official" first tri screening results back (took SEVERAL phone calls even though I had NT scan and blood draw over a week ago - harumph.) Anyway - my odds of a trisomy went from 1 in 39 based on age alone to 1 in 315 based on age/NT/bloods. That may not seem great but actually I think it is - they are basing their number on an age of 42 (age I'll be when babies are born) and even with great NT and good bloods - the age factor is always going keep the risk much higher than it would for someone in their 20's or 30's. I'm very pleased the number went the right way and my risk is significantly lowered. I am officially considered "low risk" with those numbers, and no additional testing is recommended. I posted here last week about having really struggled over CVS testing on our twins and ultimately our decision to skip that test - so the results I got today are a big relief (not definitive, of course, but a relief nonetheless.) Next stop - 18 week level 2 u/s and anatomy scan (and gender reveals!) scheduled for January 19. :-)
Re: Got First Tri Screening results back...
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
We did not do MaterniT21 test only because my pregnancy started out with triplets - one did not make it past 6.5 weeks. It's possible that triplet had a trisomy, so if I were to get a "positive for trisomy" result back -- it could be a "false" positive that has nothing to do with my surviving twins. But, I'd HAVE to get more invasive testing then, to be sure. Because of that possibility - we decided it wasn't a great option for us. Nothing is ever simple! ;-)
