Adoption

The state of PA

is making me want to rip my hair out strand by strand. My partner had a legal name change in August of 2011. We are trying to get a corrected birth certificate. When I first sent in the paperwork for this, they had a 10-15 day processing time. Now, suddenly, it's at 10-12 WEEKS. This is the ONLY piece of paper holding up our homestudy process.

I can submit a copy of my partners original certified birth certificate with a certification of the court ordered name change, but the agency can't seem to tell me if that's sufficient (I mean, it should be, it was sufficient for the federal gov't but they seem to be ruled by their own set of odd rules). I have a call into them now (their all at lunch! said the overly perky receptionist) to see if they will give me a definitive answer on the bc/name change issue. Otherwise, we're out until the middle of February. GRRR.

  • That is so frustrating!  I'm sorry, that really sucks.  I hope they get back to you shortly and that something can be worked out.  10-12 weeks seems ridiculous!

  • That's ridiculous! Why would she need a new BC?? People change names all the time and don't get a new BC. My partner chaned her first and middle names when she was in her 20s, and I changed my middle and last names when we got domestic partnered, but neither of us have a new birth certificate. That seems like a little bit of an insane requirement!

  • I blame it on PA.  I got married back in Sept. 2009 and changed by name in November of 2009. Got my new license, SS card, everything.  Even re-newed my license since then with my married name.  When I went to go vote last month, they still had my maiden name.

    I blame PA.
