I think I am going to have to switch to a Birthing Center nearby my house. I have already gone there to tour it and had decided to go with a hospital birthing center because I felt more comfortable. Now im nearing 32 weeks and our insurance is up for renewal. I have to pay $6,879.95 to this insurance company for the year. This is not including the deductable of $5,000 and a $2,500 co pay. (Total cost $14,379) We have recently lost work and CANNOT affor to pay this! The birthing center nearby is more in our price range... $5,400 for the entire prenatal care, birth, baby check-ups and a couple postpartum visits.
My anxiety comes from not knowing how safe a birthing center is. I personally have faith and trust in my body that it knows what to do and can labor and birth a child naturally with no need of medical interventions. My family thinks I am insane for even thinking about a birthing center.
Can anyone put my mind at ease.. I really do not have a choice... a hospital birth without insurance is $14,000 for a birth with no problems. Either way it is by far to expensive. Thanks in advance for any insight on birthing centers.
PS. DD birth went just fine.( besides an epidural after 8cm) No problems with the birth.
Re: Feeling Anxious
Wow I think it's cheaper to deliver in Canada with no health care coverage! There's free prenatal care here by midwives even for non-government health covered residents. The only thing that would cost you is the birth at the center.
Just research the center, visit them and stuff. Have you considered a home birth?
Wow, wish I lived in Canada. And yes I have considered a home birth. With dd I was medicated with my birth, but before I got the epi at 8cm the only releif I could find was in a tub. And mine I can barely fit in now.. At the birthing center that have these amazing deep tubs that totally cover your whole body. Plus the clean up of the actual birth freaks me out a bit.
