Wish us luck! My good friend, who is also a speech thrapist and used to work as a parent advocate, is going to phone conference in as our advocate, and we are praying that's the extra step we need to get them to do what's right and legal. Any prayers you can send our way would be greatly appreciated!
Re: IEP Meeting Today
TTC # 1 Since October 2010 (Not preventing since 2009)
November 2013: Applied & Accepted by the Agency
January 2014: Home Study, education class, Profiles
February 2014: "Officially Waiting"
Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.
Our meeting went unbelievably well. Even though all signs were that they were "gearing up" for a contentious meeting, the team did right by us and did everything we asked! We had two goals going in: 1) to rearrange M's speech services so he wasn't only pulled from the one subject for which he's mainstreamed; and 2) to have the IEP accurately reflect what's actually happening--that a special education teacher is providing his in-class support, and not a para.
Not only did the whole team work together to find the best arrangement for M's speech, but they also made the change to the IEP so now he's *required* to have a special education teacher's support during the time he's mainstreamed. AND, the special ed teacher also pointed out a few additional modifications that were added to his standardized testing provisions to help him out on the statewide tests when they come. It was like a dream meeting come true. We are convinced that just having our friend on the line was all it took, and we so happy and grateful.
Now onto tomorrow's FASD evaluation. I'd continue to welcome any prayers and good wishes for that!
