Acid Reflux?

This question is for my cousin, her daughter was born to days after DS. She doesn't have much support and I don't have advice for her so I told her I would ask you ladies. Her daughter has really bad acid reflux and she's 3 weeks tomorrow. The pediatrician immediately just wanted to put her on medicine. My question is do any of you have experience with this? If so what did you give Lo and at what age? She wants to get a second opinion so she doesn't medicate if it's not necessary. Any advice would be greatly appreciate it

My LO had acid reflux. I would have kicked puppies to get her on meds earlier than I was able to. I fought with her doctors for months and they kept wanting me to try other things, elimination diet, gas drops, sitting up longer after feeding, etc.

They finally agreed with me around 4 months that she had reflux when I took her in with chapped lips because it hurt her so bad to eat that she refused to eat and was becoming dehydrated and we started Zantac. It was a miracle. We had to adjust it frequently as she gained weight though and starting at 6 months they asked me to try weaning her off it, disaster, then again at 9 months, disaster, 12 months, disaster, finally at 14 months she outgrew the reflux.

My boys were put on prevacid in the NICU. They are doing pretty well on it, though like Sonadora we do have to adjust the dose as they grow.

DS has been on reflux medicine since 4ish weeks old.  Like PP's said, we've changed his dosage multiple times so far.. initially it was 1mL 2x/day, now we're up to 3mL 2x/day.  He takes Omeprazole (prilosec).

DD had silent reflux until about 10m but wasn't dx until 4m bc it was silent. They said it was gas every time I brought up her screaming while eating. It sucked. I finally demanded something was wrong. I should have trusted my mommy instinct sooner. As soon as she got her first dose of Zantac we saw a world of difference. I wish I would have pushed more earlier. Honesty, reflux is painful. DD would be so hungry but not able to eat bc of the pain and she had weight gain issues. It was very stressful.

DS failed to gain weight and they threatened to hospitalize stating it was a supply problem.  It wasn't until I met with the LC and did a weighed feeding that she recognized the screaming, arching back as reflux.  DS was immediately put on Zantac and he was a completely different baby!  Night and day difference!
