Now that you ladies have had your babies for a while, how is the weight coming off? I am 5 feet tall, no idea how much I've gained so far, but I keep telling myself I'll be able to work it off once the baby is here. I have lost weight easily before, so I am hoping I can do it again.
Some have said that I'll be so busy with the baby, I won't have time to actively lose weight - but won't being "busy" make me lose weight?
FWIW, I will be a SAHM if that makes any difference. I know how to eat right and how to work out (I used to be a personal trainer) -- but this is my first baby and I don't know what to expect. Being fit is very important to me.
Does genetics play a role at all? My mom is 5'2'', she gained 40 lbs with me (she had me first then my brother) and she was always a thinner woman but still carried that "pooch" in the stomach area.
Anyone want to chime off on this? what has your experience been like?
Re: PP weight loss for a FTM
Don't count on BFing to make it easy, it is exactly opposite for me. When I eat less, my supply tanks. I am trying to just work out and get my core strong again, and I guess I will try to drop fat when we wean.
I've heard SO many people talking about EBFing making the weight come off so easy. I EBF (like mad since my child never stops), eat right and still have most of the weight.
As for work outs I am busy but not in a way where I am very active. I am busy trying to get housework done and keep her entertained but it's not like she's running. A lot of my "busy" time is me folding laundry while sitting on the floor bouncing a baby on my lap singing "this little piggy". I can multitask like a champ, but I can't seem to get those last 15 lbs off (and I only gained 25 in the first place! arg!!). In the beginning I tried encorporating her into my workouts (crunches with her in my lap, pushups over her face, squats with her in my arms, etc) but now that she's more squirmy, I can't do it very easily/safely so we stopped doing that. I'm hoping once she starts daycare in January I can start going back to the gym before work to get my pre-preg body back.
I was so sick during pregnancy, I wound up weighing less than when I started after I delivered however, I'm definitely carrying around more skin from being stretched out. All my clothes from pre-pregnancy fit fine (some are even loose) but I have a muffin top where I didn't before and some looseness in the love handle area. I hate it but I think time is going to be the only thing that'll make a big difference because working out isn't doing much.
That being said, I'm not a SAHM but when I do stay home, I'm so busy with the baby and doing things around the house, I usually have to remind myself to eat. You may not have a ton of time for working out but the activity alone will keep calories burning.
I lost the baby weight (30-34lbs) by 3 months pp and started to fit into my old clothes by about 10 weeks pp. I bf until 6 months, exclusively until 4. For reference, I am 5'10, 147lbs, size 2-4.
I walked alot and since your lo is due during the spring, you should be able to as well. I live in an urban area so I would walk from my apt to Starbucks which is 1.8mi away, making a round trip of 3.6 miles. It is also great in the beginning to get some fresh air and keep baby napping. I would leave the house just after lo had a good feeding.
My opinion is the biggest part of getting into shape after baby is not gaining too much weight while pregnant. Watch what you're eating and don't let yourself indulge too often. Don't stress the last few weeks because that's mostly water weight. Continue to workout until the end.
Not BFing means you may not get the extra calorie loss but it also means you can cut back your calories relatively sooner than a bfing mom. It is true that you will hardly think about the weight. I honestly didn't. I just enjoyed walking and getting out of my apt. I am happy with how I look but I do wish I had more time to work out. I fit in all of my old clothes and my stomach is relatively flat (not like before) but I feel "skinny fat."
