Elmo...has this been discussed yet?

If so, can you direct me to the link? I wanted to get DD a Elmo coloring book the other day and DH said "no way, haven't you been listening to the news lately. We won't be buying anything elmo." Which, I am not into character clothing, so it's not a huge deal, but now that DD can say 'Melmo" I felt like she's starting to "get" things and gets excited when she sees specific things in the store. Anyway, I HAVE seen the news but I guess I didn't think of boycotting anything Elmo. What are your thoughts on this?

What would boycotting Elmo products accomplish exactly? I won't do it. DS loves Elmo, I love Elmo, and just because there is a scandal with the puppeteer doesn't mean I should take that away from DS.

My kid isn't really into Elmo but I'm not going to forbid him from watching Sesame Street.

Tell your H you won't buy her a Kevin Clash coloring book. Elmo is a muppet and a separate entity than his muppeteer. What if Ernie is on the cover and Elmo is only on page 6? KC resigned. He won't be profiting off it.

The look on DS's face when I get him something he loves is priceless.

ETA and it doesn't always look like the one in the siggy Big Smile If I gave him that stuff this year he would jump with excitement for Ani and Obi.

I will still be buying elmo stuff...my daughter loves elmo and even if i felt like it would do anything by boycotting...the puppeteer already resigned so it's not like it would be affecting him in any way.

I think that is what he was concerned with. I will make sure and fill him in on that.

And I agree, at this age, I love the look on their face when I get her something she actually loves vs something she needs.

We won't be boycotting Elmo. That's silly. My kid likes Elmo not the guy behind Elmo. Kevin Clash is no longer on the show, so boycotting Elmo at this point would be completely useless.

We aren't boycotting Elmo or any Elmo products, but we do have the LOL Elmo and sometimes it says "Again! Again!" then sighs contentedly and it makes me feel kind of squicky.

Would you have donated that much to Romney's campaign? If you are boycotting, you don't spend 1.99 nor 0.01, it's not about making or breaking.

I still think boycotting the puppet, specially since KC resigned and probably will not profit in any way, is dumb.

We aren't boycotting Elmo products because of Clash. He has left the show and I still support Sesame Street. That said, we don't have any Elmo items in my house because my kids aren't that interested in him.

Absolutely, if it would have brought me the two hours peace an elmo coloring book brings me.

Just the romney one. The point of a boycott is to hit a company in it's pocket, right? It's why none of the gas boycots work but the papa john's one did. Elmo is a huge franchise and one person boycotting some coloring books would not work.

If I thought Elmo were worth boycotting, I would do even if I were the only one. I'm actually boycotting a dominican baseball team right now, and very succesfully being the only one at it, LOL.

They are not getting MY money, even if they get everybody else's.

There's zero reason to boycott Elmo. Elmo the character did not commit any of the allegations. Also, there is zero reason for the kids to know about what happened anyway.
